Difference between DC charging post and AC charging post

DC charging pile: DC electric vehicle charging station, commonly known as "fast charging", it is a power supply device that is fixedly installed outside the electric vehicle, connected to the AC power grid, and can provide DC power supply for the power battery of non-vehicle-mounted electric vehicles. The input voltage of DC charging pile adopts three-phase four-wire AC380V±15%, frequency 50Hz, and the output is adjustable DC, which can directly charge the power battery of electric vehicle. As the DC charging pile adopts three-phase four-wire power supply, it can provide sufficient power, and the output voltage and current adjustment range is large, which can realise the requirement of fast charging.

AC charging pile: AC electric vehicle charging pile, commonly known as "slow charging", is a power supply device that is fixedly installed outside the electric vehicle and connected to the AC power grid to provide AC power for the on-board charger (i.e., the charger that is fixedly installed on the electric vehicle). AC charging pile only provides power output, no charging function, need to connect the on-board charger for electric vehicle charging is equivalent to just play a role in controlling the power supply.

Difference between the two: Simply put, AC charging pile needs to charge with the help of on-board charger, DC fast charging pile does not need this equipment. There is a big difference in charging speed between the two, a pure electric car (ordinary battery capacity) fully discharged through the AC charging pile full need 8 hours, while through the DC fast charging pile only need 2 to 3 hours. The AC charging post provides power input to the charger of the electric vehicle, and since the power of the on-board charger is not large, fast charging cannot be achieved. DC fast charging pile is a power supply device that is fixedly installed outside the electric vehicle, connected to the AC power grid, and can provide DC power supply for the power battery of non-vehicle-mounted electric vehicles. DC charging pile can provide sufficient power, with a wide range of output voltage and current adjustments to realise the requirement of fast charging.
